Why You Need Scissors in a First Aid Kit
Scissors are an essential for all first aid kits. You can use them to cut bandages, dressings and tape to size, to cut through injured people’s clothes to access a wound, or to help remove dressings so bandages can be changed. Scissors can also be used to cut through seatbelts, or other tough materials, in emergency situations.
Types of First Aid Scissors
First Aid Scissors come in a range of shapes and sizes to suit different tasks. There are three main types of first aid scissor: bandage, tuff and surgical scissors.

1. Bandage Scissors
Bandage scissors are used to cut bandages, dressings and tape to size, or to help remove dressings and bandages so they can changed with ease.
Bandage scissors tend to feature one blunt tip and one sharp tip. The blunt tip slides under the bandage without tearing the skin, and the sharp tip cuts the bandage.
Bandage scissors pair well with pins and clips, which are used to fasten loose ends of bandages.

2. Tuff Scissors
Tuff Scissors, also known as tuff cuts or trauma scissors, are used to cut through injured people’s clothes — or seat belts and other tough materials — to access an injured person, body part or wound. Much like bandage scissors, the hooked lower blade and moulded tip makes these scissors safe for next to skin cuts.

3. Surgical Scissors
Surgical scissors are designed for surgical procedures. Made up of different combinations of blunt, sharp, curved, and bent blades, each type of surgical scissors is suitable for a particular type of procedure.
Dissecting Scissors are the most common — these are general-purpose surgical scissors used for cutting though the outer layer of skin or tissue.
